whatever you focus on , magnifies in the brain
Whatever you focus on, magnifies in the brain
Our brains have a "negativity bias," meaning that we tend to pay more attention to negative experiences and emotions than positive ones. This is a form of selective attention in the brain
The negativity bias can can result in poor mental health by triggering the body's stress response, causing rumination of negative thoughts, emotional dysresgulation, and generating anticipatory anxiety.
However, we have the ability to influence our selective attention the other way
When we consciously direct our attention towards positive experiences and emotions, we activate the brain's reward system, releasing feel-good neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin. Over time, this practice can rewire the brain to notice and amplify positive experiences, leading to greater overall well-being and resilience in the face of adversity.
I encourage you to take a few minutes each day to think about what you are grateful for in your life. One way to do this is when you are having your morning coffee or tea.
